Leap Day Lipstick

The history of leap day is actually really interesting, leap years are added to the calendar to keep it working properly. The 365 days of the annual calendar are meant to match up with the solar year. A solar year is the time it takes the Earth to complete its orbit around the Sun — about one year. But the actual time it takes for the Earth to travel around the Sun is in fact a little longer than that—about 365 ¼ days (365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 46 seconds, to be precise). It may not seem like much of a difference, but after a few years those extra quarter days in the solar year begin to add up. After four years, for example, the four extra quarter days would make the calendar fall behind the solar year by about a day. Over the course of a century, the difference between the solar year and the calendar year would become 25 days! Instead of summer beginning in June, for example, it wouldn’t start until nearly a month later, in July.

I am loving Kate Bosworth’s lipstick in this picture, and since it is Leap Day, I thought we should all do something a little fun with our makeup! Lipstick is the easiest way to instantly change your look, because unlike eyeshadow you don’t have to worry about too much, or blending or being over the top. Bright fun lipsticks are very popular and perfect for Spring. This orangey color will look great on anyone with fair skin because it will accentuate some of the rosy undertones found in your skin! My pick for an orangey pout is Guerlain ‘KissKiss’ Lipstick in Orange Mambo.

Wanderlust: Wild West

The #1 goal on my bucket list is to travel to all 50 states in the US. I have been to a fair amount of states so far, but I have never really been out West, besides California and Washington. Seeing pictures of the wide open spaces, vast canyons and beautiful scenes makes me want to head out to Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona or New Mexico. I normally like to travel to cities, but at some point I want to take a road trip with my friends so we can see all that the American West has to offer. These pictures are too beautiful for words, I am so jealous to everyone who has had the opportunity to travel out here!

Best Dressed: Oscars 2012

I love watching award shows and seeing the Hollywood A-List all come together and dress to impress. The red carpet segment of the show is by far my favorite because we get to see how everyone looks and hear who they are wearing. This red carpet was filled with beautiful leading ladies all of whom looked very different which made the event that much more special!

Here is my best dressed list from the Oscars

Cameron Diaz looked absolutely gorgeous in Gucci, the beading was amazing!
Gweneth Paltrow always looks amazing with almost no makeup, radiant skin and a simply stunning gown. Her gown looked a little more pink on TV though, and it made it even more lovely. Love it or hate it, Emma Stone tried to make a statement this year. I think she looks beautiful and I love the fact that she’s not afraid of red even though she is a redhead. Michelle Williams was definitely one of the best dressed this year. She looked so glamourous from head to toe.
Mara Rooney has been shrouded in black for long after filming “Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.” It was so refreshing to see her in white, she looked effortlessly gorgeous. And last but not least, funny girl Tina Fey looked so pretty last night. I loved her hair and the navy gown was perfect for the occasion!

Essie Spring 2012 Colors

Essie makes some of my favorite nail polishes, they always have so many of the best colors and their names are just as clever as the OPI polishes! Essie started because a woman noticed there were not enough colors for ladies to choose from when they wanted a manicure, and she took her idea to the bank!

I am so tired of winter, and the thought of some of these colors on my nails perks me right up!

Business Casual: 3 Ways

Business casual for women has become this grey area where women never know exactly how to dress. The whole idea of BC is to still look put together but have the option to break out a more fun or creative outfit than your normal 9-5 power suit. I think a lot more companies are starting to embrace this look for both men and women, it is a refreshing change to the monotony of black, grey, any navy suits that everyone has in rotation.

While BC is a fun way to dress at work, you have to remember that you are still at work, and therefore you need to look presentable for any given situation that may arise.  Don’t be the girl who comes into work in a skirt that’s too short, a sloppy sweatshirt or a shirt that’s cut too low.

After all, they do say, “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.”
